Vintage Gold Camera – Leica-II Russian Kommando
|January 12, 2013||Posted by Photo GearHead under Cool Gear|
As any true Photo Gear Head will tell you: You are just NOT a REAL photographer unless you own an actual golden camera! So, if you have an interest in quickly attaining the status of “real” photographer — in the “uber-profeshunul” category of real photographers, lube-up your Paypal account and head right on over to eBay this instant! Because this WWII era gold Leica has just been put up for sale!
Ok, ok… so, it’s not really gold. It’s actually just polished brass. Big whoop! It LOOKs golden, doesn’t it? And, it is, apparently, an authentic WWII era camera — which makes it all “vintagy” and sexy, ‘n’ stuff, right? And what about that animal-type zebra-ish-sort-of print design it’s sporting? That’s got to count for a little-some-sumethin’, right? That’s got to grab this little clicker at least an extra two cool points! So, big deal! So it’s not real gold, so what! And, so it was probably owned by Nazis, so what! And, so it looks as though it might not even be an authentic Leica, but some WWII era Russian knock-off, so what!!! It LOOKs like its a GOLDEN FREAKIN’ CAMERA, MAN! C’mon! This thing is S-N-A-Z-Z-Y! If this thing wont get you laid at your next photography club meet-up, I don’t know what will! Plus! It’s shiny!!!
So… yeah… you picked up on that thing about it possibly not being an actual Leica, huh? Well, I don’t know. The seller refers to this camera as a “Leica-II Kommado der Schulen der Luftwaffe WWII (Russian made copy)” — his words. So, I’m guessing it’s not a Leica. And, it seems, the Russians were fond of counterfeiting Leica cameras back in the day. But, the seller also tries to pitch the thing by writing “Getting such thing you do good capital investment.” …so… I’m guessing… non-native English speaker? Which means: I can’t be exactly certain just what he means.
Anyway, it’s a cool looking piece of gear to be certain. And, that Nazi-looking stamp on the bottom of it means that if you’re interested, you should probably get your bids in early before it’s snagged by some neo-Nazi skin-head idiot with an itchy bidding finger, looking to increase his status amongst his peers by sportin’ some uber-cool photo-bling at his next hate rally!
The price is set at $179.00, and the sale is set to end on January 21st. You can find it by clicking here.
UPDATE: (14/01/2013) This camera is indeed a Russian made forgery. The camera is a Zorki FED. There are quite a number of them (non brass, and non-Nazi stamped) currently available on E-bay for roughly the same price as this one is selling for. There is at least one other brass and Nazi stamped version selling for much more.
